Enabling an equitable Ethiopian research system – declaration

In November 2018, the Ethiopian Academy of Sciences (EAS) and INASP held a dialogue event in Addis Ababa bringing together a range of stakeholders to explore issues of equity in research. As a result, EAS has now published a declaration outlining a vision for a strong, sustainable and self-sufficient research system for Ethiopia and steps required to achieve it.

On 13-14 March, COSTECH and INASP will bring together stakeholders from across Tanzania’s research and knowledge system to discuss how to enable a more equitable system in order to nurture a wider pool of research talent in support of national development.

Survey reveals need for good guidance about trustworthy places to publish research

Finding an appropriate and trustworthy journal to publish in is a challenge for many researchers around the world and a common concern for researchers in INASP’s AuthorAID network. INASP is a founder and committee member of the Think. Check. Submit. initiative, which is helping researchers choose journals they can trust. The findings from Think. Check. Submit.’s recent survey, discussed in this press release, reveal the need for this work and will help guide development of the initiative in 2019.

Uganda dialogue event on enabling equitable research systems

On 22-24 October, a high-level meeting will bring together members of national research institutions, policy institutions and government within Uganda, including senior decision makers, to explore approaches to enable an equitable research system in the country. The meeting will tackle important questions such as: how national research systems can nurture a wider pool of research talent and how to foster an inclusive research and knowledge system that enables a diversity of voices and opinions to contribute to national development.
