Ajoy is an expert in improving policy influencing and decision making practices. The VakaYiko Consortium aimed to strengthen the use of research evidence in policy making in Ghana, South Africa, Uganda and Zimbabwe. Clara Richards, Senior Programme Manager, Evidence-Informed Policy Making Team, INASP introduces a series of posts on new approaches for organizational change Over the four years in which INASP and Politics & Ideas have been improving knowledge to policy systems, we have heard a great deal about the complex context within which public agencies operate. Recognizing the need for new approaches to address this complexity, we developed the ‘Context Matters’ framework. The framework summarizes key organizational factors influencing how government agencies use –  or don’t use – knowledge. This year, we are ready to apply it as a new diagnostic tool to improve the use of knowledge in policy within a government agency. Parliament of Malawi’s Research Section is comprised of three staff. Its key function is to support decision making in parliament through research and analysis for MPs, who are its main clients. How is research information currently used in the Parliament of Malawi? Research information is used in three ways: In the Plenary: Members of Parliament (MPs) request information on issues that are on the floor of the House. This information is requested by Backbench MPs in the National Assembly and given to them before the House opens.
