Introducing learning pathways: a new way to learn with Rising Scholars
Rising Scholars is launching a new learning format, learning pathways, designed to bring together everything we offer on a given topic into one coherent, flexible experience. Rather than having to navigate separate courses, videos, or resources independently, researchers can now find everything relevant to a topic in one place. The pathways are organised so learners can engage at the level that suits them – beginner, intermediate, or advanced – and build on their learning over time, earning digital badges as they progress.
The three pathways launching first – grant proposal writing, AI in research, and research methods – reflect what partner institutions and Rising Scholars members have consistently told us researchers need most. AI in research, for instance, was one of the most requested topics in 2025.
The format itself is also rooted in what we have learned about how researchers learn best. Our experience shows that offering choice between facilitated courses and self-directed study, between short videos and longer structured content, is not just a convenience. It meaningfully increases engagement and allows researchers to fit learning around the realities of their working lives, whether they have an hour or an afternoon. Learning pathways combine flexibility and depth to ensure that researchers have access to high-quality learning on the topics that progress their knowledge, skills, and confidence.
Each pathway is designed for researchers at all levels, from those just starting out to those looking to deepen existing knowledge. Researchers can begin where it makes sense for them, move through content at their own pace, and return whenever they are ready to go further. It is learning designed to be as adaptable as the researchers it serves, wherever they are, and to give them access to the learning they need to contribute fully to their fields and communities.
